They use the green practice mats to hit off of. I do not like them at all. The balls were not just old but completely wore out. Most of them I hit went through the air like a knuckle ball.
The toughest hole is Number 1. A couple of the holes are short par 4's, 334 and 381 yardages. But you have to lay up or try to cut the corner. I can't do it.
Tee Boxes - They were mostly dirt, very little grass and hard as a brick.
Fairways - The fairways were decent. Fairly wide and tree lined. We are just now coming out of winter here and all the Bermuda is still brown. It was very hard to tell the fairways from the short rough. I felt like the yardage markers were hard to find and on a couple of holes, I didn't find them. There was some good water on several of the holes to keep you honest and yes, I did find the water on the front.
Greens - I felt like the greens were horrible. Most were table top fast with pits and ball marks. Dude, if you can hit the green to leave that kind of ball mark on this hard surface, fix it. Just bend over and at least make an attempt!! I tried to fix old marks on every hole. I'm not sure there was a flat surface on any green. Well I didn't find them anyway.
How did I play? Let me start with the excuses first. First time to play this year. My back still hurt just a little. Second swing of the club on hole number 1, hurt my back again. Enough.
Front nine - Shot a 57. 4 of 7 fairways hit, 1 GIR and 19 Putts.
I played about as bad as I could on the back. I could not hit a mid iron to save my life. I hit everything fat. The mind was saying do this, the body was saying STOP IT, you're hurting me!!! I just don't get it. My wedges were like a dream come true. Man, they felt good. I don't know why, it just clicked. Putting was ok but couldn't read the speed.
Back nine - Shot a 46. 2 of 7 fairways hit, 2 GIR and 12 Putts.
Still drove the ball fairly well but would just miss the fairway in the short stuff. Iron play was still atrocious, embarrassing. Fat, fat and more fat. I think it was lack of concentration. Again, my wedge play with a 52 was awesome. I was within 10 ft on most holes when I finally got to use a wedge. I one putted three holes in a roll.
Overall. The course is not that hard unless you make it hard. I did. In the next couple of months, the greens and tee boxes should come in with nice grass and will be nice to play. But I definitely have some things to work on. I was surprised I still knew how to work the ball and the BH-5's are going to be good clubs for me. Right now, the clubs are much better than I am and I can't wait to get there.
6 of 14 Fairways Hit
Only 3 GIR, ouch
31 Putts really turned it on the back nine.
Definitely some things to work on.
